Kaheawa Wind Power II

Value to Customer: Maximizing the energy delivered by this 21 MW wind farm while simultaneously maintaining grid stability required sophisticated technology. The DPR’s intelligent controls provide responsive reserves and ramp control which reduces curtailment and increases the wind energy delivered from this project by 70%, effectively increasing revenue for the customer.

Kahuku Wind Power
Location: Oahu, Hawaii
Application: Renewable Integration on a 30 MW wind farm
DPR Size: 15 MW / 10 MWh
COD: Q1 2011
Value to Customer: Located at the end of a 46kV radial line, the Kahuku Wind Farm is required to control ramp rates to ± 1 MW/min. The DPR enclosure allows for another 10 MWh of storage to be installed should the wind farm be subject to future curtailment.

Value to Customer: In order to prove the renewable integration concept prior to the purchase of its Kahuku DPR, the customer installed a DPR to control the ramp rate of 3 MW of wind turbine generators to ± 1 MW/min. The DPR also passed curtailment capture tests, a service to be provided with subsequent DPRs.
