DR. ALAN J. GOTCHER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Dr. Alan Gotcher brings over 25 years of leadership in material science technology companies with a proven track record in product and business development to his role of Chief Executive Officer at Xtreme Power®. During 2008 to 2011, Dr. Gotcher provided technology, business and strategy services to Fortune 500 and startup companies for large scale, energy storage systems and nano-materials based product technology. From 2004 to 2008, Alan was President, CEO and Director of Altair Nanotechnologies a nano-materials supplier for energy storage, pharmaceutical and high performance market applications, and led the product and product development efforts to place the first grid connected, multi-megawatt lithium ion battery. Alan had a successful 14 year career at Avery Dennison Corporation as Senior Vice President, Manufacturing & Technology and Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Avery Dennison, Alan served in various technology leadership roles for Raychem Corporation. Alan received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.
DR. CARLOS COE, FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN
Dr. Carlos Coe is Founder and Chairman of XP®. Dr. Coe was President and CEO of Anthony International, a $115m company with 800 employees providing merchandising systems for refrigeration. From 1994-1999 Dr. Coe was with Whirlpool Corporation in a variety of executive roles including VP of a $500m business unit and General Manager of a Chinese joint-venture. From 1986-1994 Dr. Coe was employed with BDM International, a subsidiary of Ford Aerospace, and also served as the General Manager and Executive Vice President of a joint venture between Ford Aerospace and Tracor to commercialize an advanced battery technology. Dr. Coe received his PhD and MA in Engineering from Princeton University, and a BS in Engineering from The Citadel.
PAT WOOD III OF WOOD3 RESOURCES
Mr. Pat Wood III has served as a principal of Wood3 Resources, an energy infrastructure developer, since July 2005. From 2001 to 2005, he was the chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. From 1995 to 2001, Mr. Wood chaired the Public Utility Commission of Texas. He has also been an attorney with Baker & Botts, a global law firm, and an associate project engineer with Arco Indonesia, an oil and gas company in Jakarta. Mr. Wood serves as a director of SunPower Corporation, First Wind and Quanta Services. Mr. Wood holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Texas A&M University and a J.D. degree from Harvard.
UMESH PADVAL OF BESSEMER VENTURE PARTNERS (BVP)
Mr. Umesh Padval is a partner in Bessemer Venture Partners' Menlo Park, Calif. office, where he invests in the IT and clean-technology sectors. He joined the firm in 2007 from LSI Logic, where he was executive vice president of the consumer-products group. Mr. Padval came to LSI Logic via its acquisition of C-Cube Microsystems, a public company, of which Mr. Padval was president and CEO. Previously Mr. Padval held management positions at VLSI Technology, serving as executive vice president of its consumer- and computing-products group. He began his career at Advanced Micro Devices.
Currently Mr. Padval sits on the boards of Avnera, Avalanche Technologies, Pinnacle Engines (formerly known as Cleeves Engines), Powergenix, Exclara, Entropic Communications, Integrated Device Technology and Monolithic Power Systems, in addition to Xtreme Power. He is also active on advisory boards at Stanford University. Mr. Padval holds a bachelor's in technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and a master's degree from Stanford University.
HANK HABICHT OF SAIL VENTURES
Mr. Habicht is currently a Managing Partner of SAIL Venture Partners, a leading venture capital fund investing in leading-edge clean energy, water and related technologies. Mr. Habicht is also Vice Chairman of the Global Environment and Technology Foundation (GETF), where he formerly served as CEO. Mr. Hank Habicht has had a 25-year career in the environmental and energy fields that includes leadership positions in business and government. He has served as Deputy Administrator (Chief Operating Officer) of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Senior Vice President of Safety-Kleen Corporation and was a Founder of the American Council on Renewable Energy.
He serves on numerous corporate Boards and Advisory Commissions, including serving as a Commissioner on the National Commission on Energy Policy, and as a Member of the President's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations. Mr. Habicht is on the Steering Committee of the Energy Future Coalition and the National Advisory Board for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He holds a Bachelors degree with High Honors from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
WALTER SCHINDLER OF SAIL VENTURES
Mr. Walter Schindler is Managing Partner of SAIL Venture Partners, LLC, one of the pioneers and leaders of cleantech investing in the US. SAIL invests in growth companies with breakthrough clean technologies affecting large global markets, primarily energy, water and agriculture. Mr. Schindler served as interim Chairman and CEO of a SAIL portfolio company and led it from pre-revenue research and development into successful commercialization and revenue growth.
Prior to SAIL, Mr. Schindler was the Managing Partner of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Orange County, California office, one of the largest in its worldwide network. In that role, he also served as the trusted strategic advisor to leading Southern California-based companies including Allergan, First American, Pacific Mutual Life Insurance, PIMCO, RemedyTemp, and SafeGuard. He was the lead advisor in over 60 mergers, acquisitions, or IPO's. He was selected by his peers as one of the five best corporate lawyers in Orange County in an independent survey of members of the bar. Mr. Schindler has been a member of the board of trustees of several charitable foundations and organizations, including the American Cancer Society and St. Margaret's Episcopal School. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of US Bank.
Mr. Schindler earned his B.A. from Yale University, magna cum laude, and was awarded the Chauncey Brewster Tinker Prize and the Bates Traveling Fellowship. After college he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Italy. He then earned his Ph.D. from Yale University, completing the program in a record two years and winning the prestigious Mary Cady Tew Prize (first in class). Mr. Schindler then earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude.
R. FOSTER DUNCAN
Mr. Foster Duncan has more than 30 years of senior corporate, investment banking, and private equity experience. He joined Advantage Capital Partners in 2009 as Managing Director with senior management responsibility for the firm's energy related portfolio and energy initiatives. He is also a member of the firm's clean energy team. Prior to joining Advantage Capital, Mr. Duncan was managing member of KD Capital L.L.C., an affiliate of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. ('KKR') which he and KKR formed in 2005. Mr. Duncan worked with KKR and its portfolio companies in connection with creating value and identifying and investing in the energy, utility, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors.
Previously, Mr. Duncan was Executive Vice President and CFO of Cinergy Corp., Chairman of Cinergy's Investment Committee and CEO and President of Cinergy's Commercial Business Unit. He has also held senior management positions at LG&E Energy Corp., a subsidiary of E.ON AG, and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold and Howard, Weil, Labouisse, Friedrichs Inc.
He graduated with Distinction from the University of Virginia and later received his MBA degree from the A. B. Freeman Graduate School of Business at Tulane University. Mr. Duncan serves on the Boards of Directors of Atlantic Power Corporation (NYSE: AT) in Boston, Massachusetts, North American Energy Alliance, LLC in Iselin, New Jersey, and SensorTran Inc. in Austin, Texas. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of GridPoint, Inc. in Arlington, Virginia.
